12 South Recovery Sponsors Reel Recovery Film Festival – Sharing the Message of Recovery Through Film

Orange County Addiction Treatment Center Sponsors Popular and Highly-Regarded Recovery Film Festival

The Reel Recovery Film Festival showcases filmmakers who make honest films about addiction, alcoholism, behavioral disorders, treatment and recovery. Slated for screening is an eclectic lineup of contemporary and classic films, documentaries and shorts from American and international, first-time filmmakers and industry veterans.

12 South Recovery, a Southern California Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment Center, is proud to act as an official sponsor of this multi-day celebration of film, the arts, writing and creativity.

The Reel Recovery Film Festival is produced by Writers in Treatment which was co-founded by Leonard Buschel and Robert Downey, Sr. The goal of the organization is to produce cultural events that celebrate recovery and reduce the stigma associated with the medical conditions of dependence and addiction.

“At 12 South we believe in giving back to the community and bringing attention to causes that help suffering addicts recover,” said Joshua Stickel, Founder and CEO of 12 South Recovery. “The Reel Recovery Film Festival provides a great forum for filmmakers to bring awareness to the critical issues of addiction and recovery in contemporary society.”

12 South Recovery’s Orange County Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Programs offers step down levels of care beginning with Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), followed by Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and then Outpatient Programming (OP). Each phase is structured according to the needs of the individual and allows for a slight reduction in structure each time, with a gradual acclimation back to life and society, while still maintaining a strong focus on recovery.

“In the past few decades, there have been hundreds of Hollywood, European and independent films exploring addiction and recovery, from comedies to thrillers, dramas to documentaries,” said festival founder Buschel. “Ever since the Lost Weekend won an Academy Award in 1945, the public has been fascinated by addiction. We give voice and venue to filmmakers whose works might not be able to compete in festivals like Sundance, Telluride, or Tribeca.”

The week-long festival showcases more than 50 short, documentary and feature films. This year’s event will will be be held over the course of several days from October 11 through 17. Tickets can be purchased via the Reel Recovery Film Festival website.
The location is the Laemmle NoHo Cinema at 5240 Lankershim Blvd. North Hollywood, CA 91601.
