Cal State Fullerton’s National Resource Center for Asian Languages is co-hosting a Vietnamese Language Roundtable Wednesday, March 29, focusing on “The Roles of Parents, Community and Educators in Supporting Vietnamese Dual Language Immersion Programs.”
“Interests for dual language immersion programs have grown tremendously over the past few years. Educators are seeing the benefits of these programs, which include increasing biliteracy, enhancing cognitive development, strengthening cross-cultural communication and improving economic opportunities,” said Natalie Tran, professor of educational leadership and director of the National Resource Center for Asian Languages.
“The success of dual language immersion programs heavily relies on the partnership between parents, the school and community. Thus, it is important that input from these key stakeholders is sought.”
The event, free and open to the public, will be held from 7:30-11:30 a.m. at DeMille Elementary School (Westminster School District), 15400 Van Buren St., Midway City, 92655. Seating is limited. Reservations are required and may be made online.
DeMille Elementary is the first school in California to offer a Vietnamese and English Dual Language Immersion Program. The center helped launch the program and continues to provide support.
Schedule:
8:15-9 a.m. — Classroom visits
9-10:30 a.m. — Roundtable discussion with parents, teachers, school district leaders and community partners
10:30 a.m. — Student performances and presentations
The third annual roundtable is co-hosted by the California Association for Bilingual Education and Westminster School District.
